In Search of the Lost Symbol

Yesterday was a beautiful day for the Charlottesville Senior Center “Washington On Your Own” trip!

Having received the new Dan Brown novel, The Lost Symbol on my Kindle (at 12:01 am!) on Tuesday morning, I was really eager to start looking for the clues mentioned in the book.  Walt and I started at the new US Capitol Visitor Center, which we had not seen before.  The picture below is the fresco in the dome of the Rotunda (that other Rotunda, not ours!) that is described in the book.

After a tour of the Capitol we enjoyed lunch in the Visitor Center restaurant before proceeding through the tunnel to the Jefferson Building of the Library of Congress, which also figures in the story.  It is a beautiful building with many areas and exhibits to explore.  Of course, David Baldacci fans will have a reason  to visit it as well.

We had just enough time for a gelato in the cafe in the tunnel between the Art Gallery buildings before sinking back into the bus seats for the ride home.

This is truly a fun trip! The bus leaves the Senior Center at 8:00 am and arrives at the Art Gallery at 10:00. You are on your own until 3:30 when the bus leaves to come back to Charlottesville. We are hoping that this WOYO trip will be repeated often for those who want to enjoy an easy day trip to DC.
