This is one of my favorite day trips! And there is still time to read the novel before you  search for the lost symbol.

Grab some friends and hitch a ride to D.C. Travelers are dropped off at the East Wing of the National Gallery of Art in the morning and picked up in the afternoon. Enjoy a day on your own visiting museums, monuments, the Capitol, or even the Library of Congress — the possibilities are endless. Lunch is on your own.
