My favorite Volunteer AND Lifelong-Learning activity in Charlottesville is my work as a FISH Mentor/Tutor with ESL (English as a Second Language) students at a nearby elementary school.
I am learning so much about other languages, countries, cultures, and customs. Of course I am helping these students learn how to read, write, and converse in English, but I am sure that this social activity is helping ME become a more informed global citizen at the same time.
Needless to say, spending time with young people is part of a healthy and active lifestyle – more exercise at times than a trip to the gym.
Thanks, JABA, for this opportunity!
