- You can make a difference in the life of a student in one of our public schools by being a FISH (Friends in Schools Helping) volunteer.
JABA’s FISH volunteers help students with reading, math and other academic subjects. They are also mentors to children who need a little extra support. Volunteers are needed now through the end of the academic year.
Qualifications?
All you need is an hour a week during the school year and a desire to help. Training if provided. For more information contact Marguerite David at (434) 817-5229, or email mdavid@jabacares.org.
- Every other Tuesday, between 10:15 and 12:15, the truck from the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank stops at the Nelson County Community Center to distribute produce (including some local) and other foods to the community. Volunteers are needed to set up tables, unload truck, hand out food and pack up the truck at closing time. The Nelson Center is located at 8445 Thomas Nelson Highway in Lovingston. For more information, contact Connie Brittle at 263-7155 or cbrittle@jabacares.org.
- Twice is Nice, JABA’s upscale resale shop in Charlottesville’s Preston Avenue Shopping Center, needs volunteers for a variety of tasks. Earn store credit for every hour worked. Twice is Nice also accepts donations of gently used clothing, including men’s clothes. If you havent been in before, definitely swing by. There are treasures to be found. All proceeds benefit JABA’s Mountainside Senior Living in Crozet.
- Home Delivered Meals Drivers are needed in the Charlottesville Area. This is a bi-weekly commitment that originates from our Mary Williams Community Center on East Market Street in the Woolen Mills neighborhood, on Thursdays. Full mileage is paid to drivers. Please contact me for more information.
