It was such a delight to attend the Cultural Leaps session on Friday at this year’s Festival of the book.
As an ESL tutor/mentor, I am very interested in newcomers’ impressions after arriving in America from other lands. All of the presentations were excellent, but very special for me was hearing Deepak Singh and having a chance to get an autographed copy of his book Chasing America: Of Lollipops, Night Clubs & Ferocious Dogs.
My husband and I met Deepak last summer while we were waiting at the bus stop by the Omni. He noticed my Celebrate 250 button and asked about it. Of course I was pleased to be able to give him the URL for more information about the city event and to explain why I like WordPress for websites. Now I am happy to have his book with his insights into accommodating to customs that at first glace must seem very strange indeed.
